MEET THE COACHES

At Virginia Sports Academy, our VSA Swim coaches are passionate about helping every swimmer grow in and out of the water. With a focus on technique, confidence, discipline, and team culture, our staff is dedicated to creating a positive environment where athletes of all ages and skill levels can thrive. Whether your swimmer is just getting started or training for high-level competition, our coaches are committed to helping them reach their full potential while making every practice engaging, challenging, and fun.
COACH JOE
My name is Joe Doiron, and I have been teaching swim lessons and competitive swimming for over 17 years.
I coached with the Blue Waves Swim Team for more than four years, where I trained swimmers ranging from Junior Olympic athletes to collegiate-level competitors.
A graduate of Old Dominion University, I have a relentless passion and love for everything swimming and enjoy helping athletes build confidence, technique, and a lifelong appreciation for the sport.
Outside of the pool, I enjoy working out and spending time with my cat, Winnie.
COACH KRISTINA
I am a mother of four boys and have been teaching swim lessons in Loudoun County, Virginia for the past 30 years. Growing up in Northern Virginia, I swam competitively for local year-round swim teams as well as Broad Run High School, which helped build my lifelong love for the sport.
Teaching children to swim is truly my passion, especially introducing young swimmers to the water and helping them develop the confidence, skills, and technique needed to progress to the competitive swim team level. I strive to create a positive, encouraging environment where swimmers feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with swimmers of all ages and abilities, and I love watching children grow from beginner swimmers into strong, confident athletes both in and out of the pool.
COACH TORBEN
I grew up in Ashburn, Virginia and started swimming competitively at an early age. My love for the water naturally led me to begin teaching swim lessons five years ago, and I have enjoyed every minute of helping young swimmers grow in confidence and skill.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is watching children learn new skills and master ones they have been working hard to improve. I strive to create a fun, encouraging environment where swimmers feel comfortable, motivated, and excited to learn.
When I’m not in the pool, you can usually find me on the basketball court!
COACH HANNAH
I have over 10 years of experience as a competitive swimmer and more than 7 years of coaching experience. I began swimming competitively when I was 7 years old, and some of my favorite childhood memories were made on summer swim team.
I love helping children overcome their fear of the water and grow into confident, capable swimmers. I graduated from Stone Bridge High School and James Madison University.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, doing crossword puzzles, hiking, and spending time with my cat, Luka.
COACH STELLA
I have been swimming competitively for over 10 years. I spent seven years swimming with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and continued my athletic career collegiately, where I also participated in club cheerleading.
For the past four years, I have provided private swim lessons to local families and have developed a strong passion for helping children build confidence and a love for swimming. Coming from a large family as one of six siblings, I naturally enjoy working with kids and creating a fun, supportive environment for them to learn and grow.
Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, I am outgoing, family-oriented, and dedicated to making swimming both enjoyable and rewarding for every child I teach.
